When working with a base for semi-permanent manicures with an apex:

– Always use nail prep and bonder solutions first; their gentle acidity enhances the bond between the base and the natural nail
– For extra durability on problematic nails, apply a thin layer of clear base first (like Gum Base or Rubber Base Clear)
– Shape the apex correctly; immediately after curing, these bases are more flexible. Proper apex shaping is crucial for maximum strength. If the base is only brushed on or the apex isn’t built up enough, there’s an increased risk of nail breakage.
– For very thin natural nails that tend to detach at the corners, after finishing your manicure, use a special drill bit for the under-refill technique to thin out the natural nail underneath.
